Pittsburgh Panthers Kick Off Spring Practice with Pads

The Pittsburgh Panthers have begun their spring football practice with pads, marking a significant milestone in their preparation for the upcoming season.

What happened at spring practice?

Pittsburgh Panthers coach Pat Narduzzi emphasized the importance of toughness and discipline during the practice, ensuring players take care of each other and avoid injuries.

The team completed their third practice session, with all four quarterbacks, including Mason Heintschel and transfer Holden Geriner, leading 11-man units against a full defensive squad.

How did the quarterbacks perform?

Heintschel looked sharp, while Geriner threw an interception but completed 92% of his passes, according to Narduzzi.

What's the status of injured players?

Defensive end Zach Crothers and offensive lineman Keith Gouveia are still nursing injuries from last season and won't practice this spring.

Other players, including linebacker Jayden Bonsu and defensive back Nigel Maynard, have also been ruled out of spring participation.

The Pittsburgh Panthers are exploring ways to utilize transfer cornerback Kanye Thompson's elite speed, potentially in the return game.

Thompson, a McKeesport native, has experience returning punts and kicks from his time at Slippery Rock.

Narduzzi praised Thompson's speed, saying he runs a 10-second 100-meter dash and could make an impact in the return game.

The team will continue their spring practice, focusing on developing their skills and preparing for the annual Blue-Gold Spring Game on April 11.
